Why is it that after everytime I talk to someone from the UK I am always so inspired to used phrases such as "That's lovely" or "Brilliant"? Then I try using them and realize that it is definitely lost in translation.
Genius!

Perhaps you need to practice after an evening of fish -n- chips, a pint, and a visit to the loo! Maybe try driving down the opposite side of the street? (by the way, my word verification for this comment is Teets! - mdr!)
Big Wave Dave,
i agree, you're not much of a "that's lovely" type of guy. fear not though mate, you can still be British and retain some of your pride. We'll start with 2 common phrases. The first is a double header - to greet someone you will now use either "Hi ya" or "you alright ya" and instantly you're part of the common wealth.
Finally, in order to express your sorrow over missing something, you will upgrade to the use of the word "gutted". here's how it would go. i went to the boulangerie yesterday and was gutted to find out they ran out of fresh bread.
be inspired and give these a go "straight away"...
CHEERS!
